  1. That camcorder is a DVD based camcorder - you already know this.

Since we don't know which Macintosh you have...

If the Mac has a drawer loading DVD/optical drive (internal or external), you can load that DVD and rip the video using HandBrake.

If the Mac has a slot loading DVD/optical drive, NEVER put a miniDVD disc in there - you will break the drive and you will scratch the disc and that video is gone forever.

Warning: DVD based camcorders were never meant to have their captured video edited. The quality you get will be terrible. If you can take that camera back for a full refund or replace it with a miniDV tape of hard drive based camcorder. If you can't... well, that is a bummer.

Once the video is ripped from the DVD, it will drag/drop into iMovie (or FinalCut) for editing.

If you have only a slot loader, you will need to get an analog/digital bridge from Canopus - Connect the camcorder with the AV cables to the Canopus A/D bridge, and connect the A/D bridge to a Firewire port on the Mac (they have had Firewire400 ports for many years).
