I have an axis bank debit card, it is salary account, so Nill balance(i.e) zero balance is applicable. Is there any minimum balance is must for purchasing on the shop?

you question is a little vague, but most debit cards, if they have the visa or mastercard logo can be used like a credit card.  Most lending institutions will give it a credit based on how much you have in the account, or use an average daily balance

A debit card is also called a check card.  It gives electronic access to your bank account. If there is no money in the account it will be rejected like a bum check.

Some have credit card connection that let you borrow money at exorbitant rates.  Make sure you don't fall into the trap of using this feature if you have it.
