  1. You absolutely, positively don't WANT the ability to check your SSN on-line, 'cause if you have that ability, so does everyone else.  The only way is to show up in person at the SS office nearest you.

SSN's don't expire unless you do.  Simply not working for years does nothing to your number.  If so, kids who start working after 17 years of being alive would run into trouble right and left.

  2. It expires when you expire.....or about 6 months after.....

  3. Your SSN doesn't "expire" until you die.  If you don't work, then you don't accumulate "credit" toward SS eligibility.

  4. You can't, but you can go to the local Social Security Office and they can help you.

  5. you know how they say u have up to five yeras to claim? well sweetie you may still have that chance call 1800-829-1040 and have the old w2form on hand if not then www.irs.gov good luck for you.

  6. Your number is yours for life.  Numbers do not expire...if you still have your card, just check there.  You should also have been receiving statements from the Social Security Admin. for the last five years telling you how much you would qualify for and/or how many quarters you have completed and may still need to qualify.

If you can't find your number, you can get a replacement card from the SSA...just go to their website at www.ssa.gov and search for replacement card and follow the directions.  It is a very easy process.
