  1. No cable car from Geneva to the French alps!  You'd have to take a bus from the airport or the bus station in the centre of Geneva, or hire a car.  Nearest ski resort is about an hour's drive.  Depends on where you want to go. There is a cable car to the top of Mont Salève (which overlooks Geneva on one side and has fantastic views over the alps from the other side) just over the border in neighbouring France (Veyrier customs point).  Take the bus to the Cornavin railway station (No. 10 I think) and then the No. 8 bus to Veyrier douane.  Walk over the border and follow the signs.
