I'm a B.A. in History from UP, I took 2 classes of Korean language, and I'm about to graduate this October 2008. I've been interested in Korean culture for 8 years now, and i have worked in Korean schools in the Philippines for three years while i was studying. I really want to work in the KOrean embassy here, but the problem is, I'm not really familiar with all the steps and requirements to be able to do that. The Korean embassy doesn't have any website here, and the staff whom I called is not really that entertaining. I asked her if there is any job opening in the embassy, and she just told me that she didn't know. I called up twice for the past 4-6 months, but i got the same lax response. Please help!

  1. If you mean that you want a job as either an official or diplomat of the Republic of Korea, you must be a citizen of the Korea to become one. But if would just like a lower-level job at the embassy (say customer service) then you do not need to be a Korean citizen. Well, that's is just going by international standards but the government of Korea may require all persons who work at their embassises to be Krean citizens. The reason why you don't need to be a citizen for some lower level jobs is that most of these jobs are about communicating with the local residents and helping them with visas and the like, so it would be too epensive to send Koreans to do these jobs and locals know the country, culture and language much better.

Other than that, I don't know much about applying for a job at the Korean embassy.

  2. This is a stretch. Go and apply for an internship. Say you would like to work/learn for one month. NO pay. That will get your foot in the door. During that time, you will learn a lot, meet the employees, and hopefully get hired as they will see how you work. If you don't get hired, then ask permission to use them as reference for your next job. You still walk out a winner. Good luck**

  3. The best thing to do is to follow the normal procedure when you want to apply for a job.  Send them (addressed to the Korean Embassy in the Philippines)your application letter together with your resume, references and copy of your credentials. State your intention of applying for a job, if any available which is commensurate to your qualfications or any job you wish to have if there is anynavailable vacancy.  If they are interested or if there is a vacancy, they would usually respond and you can take it from there.
