  1. The date on the link below is 2004, so I don't know if it's viable now.  But when I search for B&Bs in Mexico, I know a great many of them are owner by gringos.  My guess is that they had the cash to buy a large house and renovate and modernize it, and designate guest space and owner space.

    I know other gringos are in real estate and timeshare sales, but I don't know how they got into it.

    I'm currently reading The Peoples Guide to Mexico.  In it, they tell of sporatically picking up jobs cooking in restaurants.  But I believe they just traveled on a tourist visa and went back north of the border every 180 days (when the visa was ready to expire).

    You could travel for 180 days in Mexico and see what kind of opportuinites you could find.

  2. you need an FM3

  3. You can:

    *work in your Embassy,

    * look for any company who can sponsor you the FM3.

    *marry a Mexican citizen

    * open a small company

  4. Where are you from?

  5. Your best bet is to get a company to sponsor your fm3 application.  Hotel chains, restaurants, big chain stores like costco or home depot.   You can also go down with a 'trade' companies want to hire a gringo for (i.e. real estate)

    Your next option is to know a mexican national with a company or who will be your business partner.

    Your last resort is to work illegally.

    Good luck.  The mexican government doesn't take kindly to gringos taking service jobs from their nationals.

  6. You will need an FM3 visa with a work permit.  the only way to get one is to find an employer FIRST.  You must find an employer who will write a letter to the migration office stating that he is offering you a job and that he cannot find a Mexican national to fill that job.  Then you must apply, do a bunch of paper work, pay a few hundred dollars and wait.  Most jobs in mexico pay very little, even professional ones.  If you are college educated, highly technically skilled, you have a better chance of finding a job.  If you are retired with a pension, or if you have a steady monthly income, or a large am't in the bank, you can get an FM3 ( without work permit), come to Mexico and job hunt.  other wise you would have to come on a 6 month tourist visa and look.
