  1. i think human activity since the industrial revolution has increased the concentration of various greenhouse gases, leading to increased radiative forcing from CO2, methane, tropospheric ozone, CFCs and nitrous oxide. Molecule for molecule, methane is a more effective greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, but its concentration is much smaller so that its total radiative forcing is only about a fourth of that from carbon dioxide. Some other naturally occurring gases contribute very small fractions of the greenhouse effect; one of these, nitrous oxide (N2O), is increasing in concentration owing to human activity such as agriculture. The atmospheric concentrations of CO2 and CH4 have increased by 31% and 149% respectively since the beginning of the industrial revolution in the mid-1700s.

  2. IT CAN'T= ALL NON-SOLIDS DECIPATE ABOVE YOUR HEADS OUTSIDE IN THE FRIDGID THINNED AIR. ALSO A SURVEY CONFIRMED THAT 31,000 SCIENTISTS PROVED THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS'NT CAUSED BY ANYTHING MAN MADE.

  3. Not but much,  if at all.   This is all politics and the liberals are having their day but that won't last too much longer.

  4. * The origins of the modern liberal environmental movement in the campaign to ban DDT -- that led to the resurgence of malaria in the poorest countries, with devastatingly fatal consequences

    * The government-dictated preference for corn-based ethanol and other biofuels is causing massive land overuse, soaring food prices, and increased hunger in the poorest places

    * A single SUV tank of ethanol-based gasoline burns enough food to feed a starving African for a year

    * Hormones from contraceptive and "morning after" pills are literally being flushed into rivers and causing bizarre sexual malformations in fish -- and why, for once, there has been no outcry from liberals

    * Yellowstone in flames: Liberal-inspired management programs in the Forest Service and the National Parks have led to major wildfires — including a near—catastrophic one in the nation's crown jewel, Yellowstone Park

    * Getting the Green: the environmental movement is funded by industries that reap enormous profits from environmental laws and regulations

    * Censorship, manufactured outrage, and even phony "science" are being used to cut short the debate over global warming

  5. co2 causes heat and the glaciers melt in the himalayas..(its already started to..)and one final day they will be a huge flood that comes and bangs on all our cities!simple!

  6. increased amount of co2 react with other gases present in atmosphere and form thic layer around ozon layer due to which heat can not escape from earth surfase.and with increasing pollution  this layer is becoming  more thick causing global warming.

  7. Carbon dioxide levels getting higher increase the amount of atmosphere, so it traps more heat. You know, the heat hits the earth, and bounces back, but only a bit gets through the atmosphere. Well, when there is more carbon dioxide there is more atmosphere, so even more heat is trapped, and this makes everything warmer.

  8. The same way as when if there is a cloud cover at night the air temperature will not be as cold

    .. . ..

It is a blanket over the earth keeping in the heat

    .. . ..

Thin as it may be it is still there even a T shirt is warmer than nothing on a cold winters day in South Dakota

    .. . ..

  9. It will increase it a little bit because CO2 absorbes infrared radiation better than other gases.  The heat leaving the earth is infrared radiation, some of which gets blocked on the way out.

The amount will be so small that it would be like spitting in the ocean and looking for the sea level to rise.

  10. if you close all d windows n doors f a car n park it in d sun,it totally heats up bcz d glass prevents d heat frm escapin.d carbon di.in d atmosphere acts lyk d glass n traps d sun's heat in d  atmosphere,thus incresin d temperature n leadin 2 global warmin

  11. It's the AMOUNT of carbon dioxide added that might make a change.  But we could burn all the fossil fuels on earth, and still have no temperature change from it.  We can't create enough CO2 to make a difference.

We don't have the capacity to affect climate, regardless what we do.  So don't worry about it.

  12. This is explained in detail here:

You should also be careful when you read about this subject. Many people dispute the science about global warming because it doesn't fit with their ideology. They will then make all sorts of nonsensical statements. You shoud stick to those sources that are based on scientific publications in leading journals like Nature or Science. Stay away from blog postings.

It is a bit similar to asking people about evolution in the late 19-th century when most people were still deeply religious and would say that Darwin is a stupid ape.

To return to the question, the answer is basically that CO2 consists of three atoms unlike the nitrogen and oxygen molecules in the atmosphere. This causes the CO2 molecules to be able to vibrate in more ways. In each possible vibrational mode it can store energy by absorbing infrared radiation. This energy will be re radiated again but that can happen in any direction. This leads to the infrared radiation emitted by the Earth's surface to become trapped somewhat and that leads to global warming.
