How can jealousy lead to obsession?

ive recently posted a question on which was worse jealousy or obsession. and many commented said that jealousy can lead to obsession. how can it?

Maybe if your REALLY REALLY jealous of someone/thing you can become obsessed with it, until it consumes your entire life because you envy it soooooo much you block out everything else.

Jealosy, in it's extreme, can be fatal.  If jealousy is real serious towards someone, it can occupy alot of your thinking and sometimes cloud reason.  Extreme jealousi can lead to thinking alot about the person (obession) and also lead to other negative emotions like anger.  In the movie "Fatal Attraction" - it led the woman to attempt to kill.... to get her lover that belonged to another woman....she was jealous she couldn't "have" the man she wanted and was going to kill over it.

Yes, just a movie - but there are women in prisons who were overprotective, obsessed or jealous over something - usually a man - and it led to criminal behavior.

If one is having extreme jealousy, I suggest a few mental health sessions before it may get out of hand.

Because through jealousy you get fixated on what the other person has or is doing.  The more you look at it and feed your jealousy, the more you become obsessive about finding out more.  Jealousy is like  a fire, it rarely stops with just one aspect.  If it is around being jealous over a mate, you are constantly on the lookout for who your mate is looking at, talking about, or even scouting to see if anybody is looking at them.  It very quickly turns into obsession and it is very destructive to both parties.

If it's that u r jealous of them u may start stalking them to learn what makes them better than u.  Therefore leading to obsession.

You can be so jealous of someone that you become obsessed with someone and you always talk about them.

Or even if your boyfriend talks to a girl/girlfriend talks to a guy a lot and you get jealous, you will be obsessed with your boyfriend/girlfriend and they will always have to be by you.

you think about what you are jealous so much that you start to obssese over it. if you are jealous of someones look you can try to imitate it or look at them so0 much that it becomes an obssesion.

you get obsessed with the jealous feelings you have....obsession isnt always a "I like you too much" kind of thing, it can be an bad thing too....as in you think about them all the time, but it dosent have to be for a complimentary reason, it could be a for a bad reason. As long as you spend too much time thinking about it, whatever it is, its still an obsession. You could be so jealous of them, you could end up feeling jealous the WHOLE time and think about ways to outdo them the whole time, and then you are still obsessed, but by jealousy.

Jealousy will NOT lead to obsession. It's the other way around--obsession will lead to jealousy. That is b/c you will dislike your object's attention to almost anything or anyone but yourself. Like you want to be the center of their universe.  

Life doesn't work that way so you might as well get some perspective and back down.

Jealousy comes from insecurity.

Obsession is all consuming thoughts. The action you take from a thought is different than just thinking about your object.
