  1. What type of TV do you have and why do you need ot connect the PC to it? Use as a monitor? Watch movies?

I have a LCD TV that has a VGA port so I just connect it to my laptop. If both PC and TV has a DVI port, that should work too. Some older PC's have a SVGA port as well. Finally, if both the PC and TV are old, you can get a VGA to component-video or RCA output but the quality is going to suck.

If you just want to watch movies, then older TV's are okay. Using a non-HD TV as a monitor is next to impossible to read text since the resolution is too low.

  2. Radio shack has a box for $80 bucks it turns your pc into a DVR,  I can't remember the brand name, but I just say it last week.  Also sony has something called a "Location Free player" It's supose to be something like a reciever to control all your multi media devices but I haven't checked into it so I don't know much about it except that it will also control your PSP and possibly a PS3.

  3. MY LCD FLAT HAS A PLUG FOR BOTH.

WHILE FLIPPING THROUGH MODES, I CAN CHOOSE EITHER PC OR TV.

FYI:  I DID BUY A TV CARD FOR MY PC AND TURN THE TV ON THROUGH THE COMPUTER INSTEAD OF RUNNING A CABLE DIRECTLY TO THE LCD.

  4. All depends on what you want to do between PC and TV. If you want to watch content from the PC on your TV, you'll need a video card that has a video output connection such as an RCA video output or S-Video. For this type of use, you'll also want to use a cable for audio from the PC to the TV like a 1/8" stereo jack connected to the audio output on your sound card to left and right RCA audio connections connected to the TV or other device.

You can also go in reverse to take TV content and run it to your PC. You'll need a video capture type card and similar audio cables run to the line in on the computer from your video source.

  5. some graphics cards have a composite video out or more modern ones may have an hdmi socket

without it, you need a vga splitter cable and a vga to composite video converter

  6. Well, it depends if you want to project/extend your computer moniter on your TV

    or

If you want to get what's projected on your TV onto your computer (for recording or such)

Computer to TV:  you need a video card or onboard capability that has a s-video or an RCA out on the back of your computer.  You also need the latest graphic drivers for your video card (depends if it's Nvidia, Radeon, Intel, etc.).  You open up a control panel and figure it out from there after all the appropriate connections have been made.

TV to Computer: you need to buy a converter to collect the data via coaxial (if cable) or RCA (if dvd player) and there should be a program that should explain everything that comes with the converter.

    Good Luck :-)
