If you are looking for a place to do volunteer work call United Way in your area and ask for a list of participating agencies that use volunteers who have your specific interests and skills, look in the phone book and see if there is a volunteer bureau or clearing house, go to www.secondharvest.org and enter your zipcode in the location finder. That will get you info about foodbanks near you who always need volunteers and who can also give you names of participating agencies and ministries who are likely to be smaller local groups who always need volunteers.   Call a veternarian and ask about animal shelters and animal rescue groups that need help and also about any animal therapy programs (these programs use animals to help people in nursing homes, kids in schools,etc.) and finally call your local newspaper especially if you are in a small town.

If you are looking for ways to recruit volunteers to work on a project or for a nonprofit organization call the volunteer bureau if there is one, send announcements to the newspaper and radio and TV stations, call local scout troops and larger local churches and see if they want a service project,post notices on store bulletin boards and on any comnmunity web site.
