my brother received web design training and editing training from Brooklyn Job Corps. He even learned some software like adobe and photoshop but he has never been employed before and now he is trying to get a job with the above training. he has been trying for 6 months to land an editing job or web design. what is the best way to go about this? every interview he goes on, he is told that he has no experience but he has gone to school for these trades. what can he do?

  1. As part of his training he should have designed sample websites and other projects he can use as samples of his work.  If he did not do this for his course, he will have to create his own samples.

BTW, he's competing with college grads who have much more extensive computer training, and technical school grads (e.g. Gibson College, communit colleges).  He has to show his work product is as good as theirs.

  2. Of course can do this:

http://ilyesoft.99k.org/scriptlance.com.... (free registration, free bidding in project, no monthly fees, make money and experience quickly )

It's a freelance website, anyone can find small design job one, he will need to register for free ! And bid for free, and he will get jobs and project if he bid some low bids because he is new.

  3. experience on that kind of work is very important without knowing some of that web design its useless applying job is suite to your course also thats why if your course different that kind of job its socks

  4. Hi,

Your brother can start freelancing as a web designer.

Freelancing is now well nurtured tactics to earn money..

there are lots of websites available which gives you information about freelancing work on web development, web designing, web promotion.

you can contact on this site http://www.letsnurture.co.cc

they are providing freelancing work for web designers.

  5. 1. He MUST have a professional portfolio ONLINE with samples of the type of work he is applying for.

    2. Your brother's friends, family, church, and community groups could have him volunteer his web design skills for their own projects and ideas, to add to his portfolio.

For every volunteer webdesign project he does, he MUST receive an online written professional testimonial and something else that they can trade with him that is helpful (food, transportation, trade services)... so that he can officially state that those were actually PROFESSIONAL JOB EXPERIENCES..... even if dollars were not exchanged.

When he applies for jobs in the future, he should have a business card or postcard or brief cover letter with a link to his online portfolio.

His online portfolio should have a section with those professional testimonials.

Employers want serious go-getters that make their own way in a very competitive field.

Some Freelance work opportunities for webdesigners, can be found online at the websites that specialize in whatever skills your brother does.  For example, I work with 'Ruby on Rais' and most ror websites also show job postings for ruby on rails.

The following websites might help for finding freelance work, but be warned they can be treacherous with 'phoney employers' that rip off the workers, and phoney workers that rip off the employers.

For small jobs less than $500.00 get your money upfront before sending the finished project to a project manager.  Freelance work often pays better than fulltime jobs, its just bigger risks for everyone involved though.

  6. I had a similar situation.

I was very well-schooled in electronics, qualifications up to my eyeballs, and it was still very hard to break into the industry.

So I wrote to corporations asking for 'summer work', between semesters...I even stated that I did not want to be paid, just to get my hands on experience.

A month later I was making 60,000 pounds / year. I was snapped up by someone impressed that I'd offer to work for nothing, just to further my knowledge.

I'm not saying this is your route, just that it may be time to get innovative, and try a new method of getting into their chosen profession.

    Good luck.

  8. he could try doing some sample of work on photoshop and such... in multimedia world... the most important thing is not the certificate... but the skills you have... make the sample and put it in the portfolio... when they see the work is up to their expectation... then they will consider taking him as a worker...
