i live with my grandparents and my older brother.

my grandparents are both disabled my grandma cant work she gets nothing from the state no money whatsoever my brother is disabled and he has a job at a local supermarket he has spina bifida. He only makes about $130 -$150 a week. My grandfather collects social security every month $1,150. We live in a 3 family house and the rent is $1,100. So that leaves us little money for bills. They collect food stamps so we are okay as long as food goes. I am 18 years old and just got my first job that i start next wednesday. I will only be making about 90 to 120 dollars every 2 weeks. They have had people help them in the past with bills but now its getting too far. And because I turned 18 they are cutting back my grandfather's social security check so now we are going to have trouble paying our rent. They have been trying and trying for months now. They have went to the state to help them out but they cant. We need money for electricity gas cable etc. and most importantly ..the rent. I am really starting to worry my grandfather just called 5 people right now and they cannot help us out either. He is beginning to become really upset I can tell.

What is there that we can do? They can do?

I can't even go to college now with a 4.0 GPA. I got accepted to New York University and i really wanted to go. I cant even afford to get into a community college. But besides that I am not even really worried about that. I am just worried about my family..is there anything. anyone in the state of Connecticut that we can do? The state does not want to know anything I was wondering if there are any numbers or people to contact that they help people like us out.?

  1. as far as the college thing goes there are a MILLION financial aid services out there....you fill out a form and explain your situation and you can get full tuition scholorships and things like that..i don't live in connecticut so idk wbout numbers or things like that. but i thought i would try to help you out with getting your college education.

  2. where do u live? because, here where I live at in CA your grandmother would be able to get ssn and would your brother. My neighbor father has diabetes, wife is unable to work and they have a adopted 9 yr and a grandson with down syndrome and they all get social security and medi-cal. Go to social security office and talk to someone there about getting it for your grandma & brother I know you'll need a doctor note saying the illness or disabilities. Also, being your income you would qualify for financially aid through the college look into that too. Wow, you have so much responsibilities at a very young age. good luck

  3. Go to the MEDIA of CT.  Channel 3 - ITeam, Channel 4, Fox 61.  Reporters will listen!  Tell them your story.  Call every radio and TV station you can find and tell them the disgusting thing that is happening to you and your family!  I live in CT, and I totally disagree with all of the support they give to knocked up teenagers and the little support they give to those who truly need it!  Also, contact the gas company and get them to give you financial relief.  They HAVE to give it to you if you are having a problem.  If you attend a church in your community, get a prayer chain going and ask for support from the church.

Last, but certainly not least, get out there and get those scholarships and grants for college.  You should have an entirely FREE ride in college based on the income stats you have reported and your GPA.  Where in the heck was your guidance counselor at school.  SHAME on them!  Go BACK to the guidance counselor and make them help you get into college.  What a terrible waste of an intellectual young lady.  Good luck, my dear.

  4. There are several things that you might  consider. First, talk to your school counselor about your situation. Two, if your grand is a vet,as I am, rush him to the VA for counseling. Try SSI. ( social services). The government is always changing rules and regulations. 21 years mil taught me that fact. What about HUD for housing? What about your brother's condition? (SSI) What about your mother? People like to her folk, write a letter to your sen. Remember, you are able to vote!!!! We live in Houston,Tx. We had an issue and wrote to Sen. H.Clinton. She will help. Good luck and I hope that God shines his light on you and your family. When one door is closed, many open. One passing thought. Your school counselor (even if you have graduated), is always there for you.Go to school.God will make a way.
