My friend just lost a lot of weight, and she looks great! She used to be 262 pounds and now she stepped on the scale and it says 197. Shes not done, she wants to get to 135-145 Ibs but she wants to know how much body fat she has.

She weighs 197 Ibs, large frame, and shes 5'4 1/2."

Is there anyway you can determine in just by that?

  1. Body fat callipers, hydrostatic weighing or DXEA.

    You can't calculate body fat % from just height and weight, but the average female of that height/weight ratio probably has at least 35% bodyfat. If she is large framed or muscular it could be less.

  2. If you go to you're local gym or walk in clinic they will be able to test you.

    Good luck

  3. tell your friend congrats on the weight loss thats great. keep up the good lifestyle and I dont really know how to copute that I am sorry

  4. There is what is called a BMI or Body Mass Index that does it just based on those numbers but it is not exactly accurate.  Based on the information that you gave me about her BMI is 33.8.  The BMI categories are as follows:

    Underweight = <18.5

    Normal weight = 18.5-24.9

    Overweight = 25-29.9

    Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

    However, the most accurate way to determine your body fat percentage is to purchase a scale that measures your body fat.  In the instructions, it will tell you what your body fat percentage should be.

  5. How did she do it!? I've wanted to know how to determine body fat too.
