My friend is a really good volleyball player, she has already gotten a scholership to play in college, she has been named MVP, best in the state and all of those things. She can hit the ball so hard, but she is so skinny and not exactly strong, how can that be? Everyone tells her she has a really fast arm swing, but what exactly does that mean? just what can you tell me about how she hits so well, being so skinny, and not very strong.

  1. She does her spike approach and jumps high and snaps her wrist therefore she comes down on the ball the ball has nasty down spin.

  2. it doesn't really matter how skinny you are when you hit as long as you jump.  strength is a minimal factor as well.  if you jump and hit the ball as fast as you can, you will have a hard hit.  when people tell you you have a fast arm swing, they are telling you that you can wind up your arm and hit the ball very quickly. if you do this, then you are most likely to have a stronger hit. you also should snap your wrist!!!! good set+good timing+fast arm swing/snap the wrist=good hit!!

  3. It's all about the swing, snap and follow through. Snapping your wrist is the most important thing!

  4. Actually, Im very skinny too but I have a lot of muscle. She might have a lot of muscle too..I know its hard to believe thats what a lot of people say, but she probably does have a lot of muscle   hidden.

  5. My husband, a volleyball coach, says that it is being in the right place at the right time and good technique with high arm speed, knowing just how to hit the ball.  It doesn't have to do with being strong, just fast, and having good timing.

  6. dude who is this???? are u talking about me?   this sounds like me...i was named mvp of the state, college scholarship and they say the same thing...hmmm o well.  anyway, when they say you have a fast arm swing it doesn't really mean quick, more so clean, good form.  when you have good form and hit the ball at the right point more than likely your gonna crush it.  and about skinny, it's harder to hit good angles when your a beast, usually when your stronger your typically have limited, very hard shots.  still effective, but limited.

  7. it's not only about the straight, it helps but timing and how well you hit the ball matter alot too. Also how high you are on your jump when making contact, location of where your hitting. Like every sport the end result is cause by so many small details.

  8. Well, if she has a good setter and good height or vertical she can hit the ball perfectly a lot.  I have a girl on my club team who's five foot five and when she gets a good set she can slam the ball down on the ten foot line.  I'm only five foot six and if I get a good set, good timing, and a good jump I can hit pretty well.  There's also the fact that your friend probably follows through with her swing- that can add A LOT of power to an otherwise okay spike.

  9. they kno exactly how to place the ball, when to hit it, what part to hit it on, how to make it spin, they have strength.

there are alot of elements to it.

  10. when it comes to hitting, don't worry about strength. because of physics, speed is really the key when it comes to kills. think about it...what is a "hard" hit but a fast one? also, things like hitting on top of the ball and snapping your wrist upon contact to add top spin will help.

if you want to work on your hitting, work on your armswing.

i suggest hitting a ball against a wall. focus on opening up your shoulders and rotating them when you hit. the hitting motion should look very similar to that of a quarterback's throw. don't forget to snap!

when you hit like this, try not to catch the ball inbetween hits. practicing this way will improve you snap, hitting motion, placement, and footwork.
