  1. I went through this when I was little. We (parents, two oldest of my younger brothers) went to the courthouse and got our last name changed to my dad's.

  2. I did this about six years ago. My husband hired an attorney. It was around 500 for him. He petitioned the court and social worker came to the house talked to us for 30 mins or so and then the judge finalized the adoption. It only took about 60 days start to finish. I think we paid the social worker some kind of fees but only 60.00.

  3. My sister is going through the EXACT same thing.  Her daughter is also two.  Since the biological father was not there at birth he did not sign the certificate so she called the social security office to see if her husband could just sign the birth certificate and change her last name like that but they told her that she needed to go to the court house and feel out a name change document.  So I'm guessing all you need to do is go to the court house and find out from there what else needs to be done.  I'm not sure about the adopting part though.  Good luck.

  4. It depends on your state, When I was five my mom was going to get re-married and her husband (my dad wanted to adopt me) my biological father had sign away his rights, everything was done through the courts, you will probably have to do the same, it took about 1 year for it to be finalized...but he is my daddy!!!! Go to your local courthouse I am sure they have the forms you would need

  5. Call an adoption attorney and he can help you petition the court.
