Many have said my son is at the top of the class and I believe them. I was wondering how my son can get his IQ tested.

  1. The school is only responsible for conducting a psychological evaluation including IQ when there is a suspected disability or problem. The district can refuse to test a child. Your best resource would be to find a private psychologist to test IQ. It will likley cost a few hundred dollars at least. If you have a local university in your area sometimes the psychology graduate students are looking for children to "practice on" and will do it for free, but they will not guarantee reliability because they are students, but they tend to do a good job.

  2. Internet, school, Doctor, or my councilor

  3. If you just want to know, contact a private practicioner.  Be prepared to pay a few hundred bucks.  IQ by itself doesn't really mean much.  You'd also want a measure of his academics to know if he's working above, below, or at his potential.  Please remember, IQ is just one measure of how a child is predicted to do in school.  And many times, it's not so great at that!

If you are interested in intervention for his giftedness, you can ask if your school has a gifted program, and how might someone qualify.  Many schools use group testing data to help make this decision (Terra Nova, CAT are some tests schools use- you can also look at your state's NCLB testing to see).  This you can see for yourself- does he generally score in the 95% or better?

  4. have the school test him!call the board of education for assistance

  5. You may request an IQ test at your children's school, ask his principal, they are compelled to. When you ask, they MUST test him.

The Best Of Luck To Your Bright Child ^_^.

  6. I'm sure your son's teachers can tell you whether your son is a high achiever or not.  You could even look at standardized testing that he has probably taken to see where he falls on national percentiles.

My concern over IQ tests is that they are not always accurate because you need a very reliable person to give them, it can get expensive, and the results may vary based on who gives them.

I also think IQ's sometimes label people.  Why does his IQ matter? If he is at the top of his class, it doesn't matter when his IQ is in the genius range or bottom range.  I would be more concerned if he were at the bottom of the class--yet I knew he was very bright and I had to show something to the school to get them to challenge him to reach his potential.

Be grateful you have such a gifted son and know that both you and he are very lucky :o)

  7. you can  go to an educational psychologist

  8. wouldnt that put quite a lo of pressure on him to be the best?

  9. I would contact the MENSA organization.  They can point you in the right direction.
