Hi, We've just got new floorboards put and and they do not shine like showroom floorboards. The boards are new so do not want to sand and seal. Is there any other way? Let me know please! Thanks!!

  1. First of all before spending too much on laquer check the finished product of your flooring whether it can be painted over and by what paint ( water based or turps based paint ) there may be a wax on your flooring that may not take either without sanding , So check with the manufacturer or take a sample of your floor to the paint shop and get them to check for you.

There would be nothing worse if you painted the whole floor just to find it cracking and flaking of after a month.

  2. Depends on the floor itself. If it's solid wood, use a product called Bonakemi laquer. Costs £100 a gallon but is worth every penny...self levelling and water based. simply apply with a roller. Dries in 24 hours and rock hard in 48.

  3. Idea 1: Try a good "deck and spar" varnish.

Idea 2: Try a good acrylic floor polish, buffing with a professional buffer.

Idea 3: Ask the showroom salesman how THEY got the floors to shine. They probably used Pledge or some other spray wax/cleaner
