  1. While it is true that some Ambassadors are political appointees who supported a presidential candidate in an election, the vast majority of them are career diplomats.

To become a diplomat, you first need to pass the Foreign Service Exam. There are two parts - written and (if the past the first part) oral. Then you go through training in Washington DC and do your first overseas tour as a Consular Officer. Then you work your way up the ladder.

There is no specific degree degree or area of study necessary, but the Foreign Service exam is extremely difficult and most of those who pass have advanced degrees.

  2. I dont know :p

  3. difficult hard and technical stuff. good luck

  4. To become an ambassador, you can raise a bunch of money for a winning candidate's presidential campaign and get appointed to the post as a reward.

Another way is to work in the State Department, particularly overseas, and move up through the ranks.

What to study?  I'd imagine political science or international studies would be good areas.

  5. I think its more a case of who you know than what you know....social skills and background are rather important....don't set your sights so high...look at a career in the civil service and see what happens then.

  6. Work your way up the state department, or be from Texas...our country seems to like Texans. (i dont...but that's beside the point.)

What to study at Uni--depends...regional studies and languages works well. International relations, International Business, Politics, or if you go to Georgetown- Bachelor in Foreign Service (I believe the only place you can study that specific degree is at Georgetown.

  7. In the US, get rich and become the biggest contributor to a successful campaign. That should get you the post in London or Paris.

In the UK, go to Eton and Oxford.

  8. being a legislator helps

look into the 'page' programs they are like apprentices

but i think u will need some high up connection to be ambassador

  9. The top job is ambassador and that position is handed out as a political favor, no qualifications needed. You might research job opportunities in the U.S. State Department. But, really, the plum jobs are acquired because you helped someone get to be President of the United States; either by fund-raising or working within a political organization.

  10. Study something like international studies and then apply to the State Department(Foreign Ministry) and make the whole career.
