How do you get people's attention for anything? It's the same idea.

Make it something they want to look at, then have a slogan, song and story line that they'll remember. (You want a story and a song, to capture both sides of their brains.) Anything that moves them, makes them care, laugh, feel good will work. In the ad, have people who look the way the target audience wants to look.

Color also helps. Red really grabs people, and of course, Coke's logo and packaging are mainly red.
