We are about to hire someone for a 5-month project, and need to know if there is a quick, inexpensive way to discover his criminal background history, if any exists.

LINKS or name of online service(s) appreciated. Or do we just go to a police department for this stuff?

  1. There are several websites that run background checks (such as Crimcheck.com) that are based on various public records. As such, they are highly unreliable as to how accurate they truly are.

The best background check is run by your local Police or Sheriff's Department. You would need the applicant to sign a waiver allowing the check and they would be fingerprinted. This is called a BCI check, which is statewide for all criminal activity every committed by this individual.

If you want the most thorough check, the State Police barracks in your area could run an NCIC (Federal) check for $68, which also requires a fingerprint card to be run/submitted. That will show all criminal activity for the life of the person throughout the USA.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you
