My daughter is 11 y.o. and started the Red Cross level 10 course. She needs to swim 20x25m. without stopping, swimming 5x25m. at each of the 4 strokes. She can at the back crawl, elementary back stroke and breast stroke but at the crawl she needs to catch her breath for 30 seconds after each 25m. How could she improve her endurance at the crawl?

  1. Practice, practice, practice.

Build endurance bit by bit over time.

  2. First off, don't take your daughter to learn to swim at the Y. I used to work there and they're courses are incredibly slow paced. Take her to any summer swim program and she will learn 10X as fast.

There are several 10 years olds on my summer swim team, the slowest of which is able to swim 2000 meters a practice every day. These kids are also deemed mediocre as far as racing goes within the county.

PS the Y overcharges, despite it's claiming to be "non-profit"

  3. He is right.  Although, the swim TEAM itself is a good program.  I am a part of it, and it is alot easier than that.  We would get 30 sec rest anyways.  Se if your team has a test the waters program to try it out.
