  1. Take a look at this site.. They offer a free credit report so you can see exactly what's going on with your credit.

  2. I would recommend 2 things: 1) a very low cost (possibly free) credit repair program to try to have the negative items removed. 2) I would add a tradeline program to boost your score quickly (60 days or quite possibly less). A friend in California used this and got a 120 point bump from 560 to 680. There has been a lot of disinformation by Experian saying these authorized user programs do not work. Check out the source news link for an article from July 30th that has them admitting it still exists. My friend in California went through www.totaldebtsolutionsllc.com and filled out their free evaluation form to get the ball rolling. Good luck.

  3. Get a gas credit card, or dept store, charge some things and never miss making a payment.  To develop a good payment "history" takes a little time (as does all "history") and the only way to do it is to get some credit, use it, and make payments on time.  Credit history doesn't even care how much money you have in the bank - all that matters is what credit you have used, and did you make payments when you should have.  Following this recipe and you will soon have creditors looking for YOU to be their customer.

  4. Have zero balance and high credit limits on your credit cards.  Do not carry heavy debt.  Pay in full every month.  Apply for two credit cards and use them prudently.  Open a bank account that includes a free checking account and a credit card.  Then you can go on their web site and see your balances.  Look at "www.wellsfargo.com"

Steer clear of debt.  If you can't pay it off in three months you cannot afford it.  Don't have too many credit cards.
