How can one obtain from a Bank information on the existance of an estate account that belonged to a deceased?

family member which was not in the name of the deceased person, but in that of a previous family member and the administrator?

  1. uh i presume you can do that if you are the next of kin and or show a power of attorney to be able to view that .


  2. I will keep my eye on this one with you. We found a bank book of my Gran who died in 1987. The bank book looks like it was never closed and the last debit into it was just before she died. There is nothing on the book to say that money was ever taken out, and working out over the years with the interest rates there will be approx £35,000 in the account. We have been to the bank, wrote to differant people about dormant accounts but to no avail. Not too sure what else we can do anymore, so good luck I hope you get better joy than us. At the end of the day it is alot of money. Hope it works out well for you

All powers of attorney end once you are deceased.  If you are a family member just have your attorney contact the bank for you.  Otherwise the bank will let all the account assets stay with the bank as long as possible. They are not on your side when it comes to giving up any assets without a legal nudge.

  4. First of all you have to prove that you actually are a family member, then the kind of kinship to the deceased person..
