Question:

How can one properly dispose of dirt cheaply without a pick up truck?

So heres the situation: I'm doing a gardening project which involves about a foot of dirt removal off the top. I have many bags filled with dirt. However, the problem is that the local landfill will not allow us to dump because its in black bags and they cannot see inside nor do we have an open bed pick up truck in which to use. What are some other ways to dispose of the dirt? By the way, this is for Los Angeles county.

  1. call a local landscaper they usually are in need of top soil and if it has too much grass let it rot and us it  for compost hey at least

you know were it came from?

  2. I'm with the others. Post on Craigslist.org or join your local freecycle group and post it on there. freecycle.org.

You can also put a sign buy the road stating free dirt.

It won't take you long to get rid of it.

You can always pile it somewhere out of the way just in case you might want/need it later. Also why not put it in a mound and make a flower bed that way?

  3. The best way is to re-cycle it using the Free Ad section on Craigslist or Freecycle.  Offer it as free dirt for "fill" (that some people who are involved in construction may actually need to have and will gladly pick it up).   Or offer it as soil which could be ammended in various ways.  Many home gardeners and landscapers can use it and will come and get what they need.

Both Craigslist and Freecyle are free online services.

Good luck and thank you for trying to help the environment by recyling what other's can use.

  4. Go to "Craigslist" and advertise for free dirt. If it is good soil people will want it for gardens or even if it is just plain ol dirt people may want it for other landscaping projects.

  5. Offer it free on Freecycle for your area or another give-away site. Dirt's not cheap!

  6. you are throwing out your top soil which is your best dirt.  it is odd to think a gardening project would ask you to get rid of your top-soil.  I would just spread it around the yard in low spots or put the bags of dirt in the front yard with a sign which says - free topsoil - and it will probably be gone by the next morning.

  7. The holidays are right around the corner. Tie a big red ribbon around each bag and give them as gifts.

    Who can’t use some soil?

  8. Why don't you build some nice big planting mounds in your yard............if not call someone that uses dirt and give it to them free if they remove. nite
