How can parents be so irresponsible?

Why do some parents give their children or infants alcohol. ANY alcohol is a bad idea, in my opinion. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? I had a friend give her 2 year old beer.

back in the day they used to give it to teething babys to help numb there gums...and no im not saying its ok im just saying thats what they used to do...but it is a really bad idea to just let a two year old drink beer...

No way. Alcohol carries health risks no matter how old you are and I don't think a responsible parent should be giving it to their children. I'm with you on this one

My dads friends were like that, they would be sitting around drinking a beer and end up I guess giving me sips when i was younger and my mom found out and got so mad.  I know it use to be that for teething and stuff they would use whiskey to numb the gums or whatever but that isn't recommended anymore but some just think it is funny to see a baby or toddler react to the taste of beer YUCK.  I would have to slap the person if they every gave my boys a taste.  My stepsisters husband doesn't see anything wrong with a little beer cap of beer so he did let his boys taste it and I just felt that was a horrible horrible idea.

It is completely wrong to give a child alcohol for one it is against the law. I believe the law states that you have to 21 years old to consume alcohol.

alittle sip isn't gonna kill them, besides, its not illegal

EDIT: half a cup? now that is irresponsible, AND illegal
