  1. You can't *make* them be interested in books, you can provide books that are interesting and appealing, as well as an environment that promotes a love of reading.

Some people do not LIKE to read, and that's fine. Reading is great for visual learners. I think it's more important to promote the attainment of knowledge, whether it's books, journals, computer, audiotape, whatever works for them. You know, before Gutenberg invented the press, people were up in arms about books (much like they are now about computers). Given books would warp a child's mind, the ability of the populus to read would create havoc, etc. So be open to alternative methods of taking in information.

  2. My mom just came home one day, brought out two books (one for me and one for my sister) and then gave them to us. And then she tells us that she bought us gifts and that it's ours to read. Well, you would know how a child feels when he/she owns something. And after that, she'd tell us how she loved to read, and so on.

Kids are impressionable. They learn by imitation as kids. So act as the example.

  3. by bribing them. give them like 50 cents for one chapter they read. thats what my mom did, then i started to be a bookworm.

  4. By reading to them.

  5. Depends on how old the children are. I was 3 when my mom taught me reading, so I automatically developed an interest for it. Teach them to read as early as you can. If the children are older, well....Try telling them that the world of books is so much more exciting than the real world.

  6. Read a book to them. When I was young my mom used to read all types of books to me and that made me interested in learning to read myself.

  7. Turn off the t.v.Limit t.v. to only an hour a day if any. Read to them. Be patient. Kids ask a lot of questions. Ask them questions about the story. Get excited. Kids will be excited if you are. Be a role model. Kids do what their parents do. Read books yourself. Most important, no video games or t.v.

  8. By reading to them. It makes the words come alive and feeds their curiosity.

  9. watch and see what the child shows interest in like boats-birds kites,etc.. then buy a small book for them to read through to see if that catches their interest

  10. start reading to your kids when they are young...  make it interesting... and ongoing..get them to participate... and pretending that they are telling the story..  get the ones with lots of illustrations and color .

  11. YOU SHOULD START EARLY YOUR FIRST TWO YEARS IS HOW YOU MOLD YOUR CHILD READ TO THEM SIT WITH THEM IT WILL BE PART OF THEIR LIFE

  12. tell them that books r very immaginary, full of colours, once u develop ur interest in reading them u ll come with flying colors

  13. I read to my babies when they were still in the womb! I read to them when they were days old and sometimes, although they are teens, they still ask me to read to them....(they like to make fun of me!)

  14. depends on what there into.

  15. hey, great question.

I guess it starts from young, even when they are less than a year old.  I read in front of my son when he was a year old, i bought him books, and make sure all my books are seen everywhere in the house so that he is used to seeing books and seeing mummy reading books.  I told him stories, some from books some i made up myself.  The former made him feel the fun of reading, the latter made him want to tell stories.  We competed by making the father the judge to decide who told the best stories.  In this way, he was so eager to find the best stories from books, which meant he went to look for books to read!  if you want advise on what books to buy, let me know.  I work in a bookstore as a merchandise manager.

  16. by giving them books that interest them. if they want to be a cop, give them books on police work. or sports if they play them. take them to a bookstore and let them pick one out. if all else fails, harry potter books always work! good luck!

  17. children... k try reading them bed time stories... not those short one, but those like harry potter, Charlotte web .. those children literature stories which they might be interested

until one day stop , if they want to know the rest of the stories... you can read with them .. until they can completely independent on reading....

  18. Set an example, read the paper, books etc...kids always follow what the parents do.

  19. As a preschool teacher, I've noticed one of the best things a parent can do is read to their child.  Reading to them and having their books readily available for them to look at can make a HUGE difference.  I also agree that, if you can afford it, take them to the bookstore and let them pick out a book once a month or so.  If buying the book isn't an option, take them to the library and have them pick out books!  Also, many libraries and bookstores, including corporate ones like Barnes & Noble (which has a GREAT children's section and awesome events at most stores), have really fun children's events, and even have authors come at times.

  20. Believe it or not i had this problem but my daughter got interested after watching Little Bill on one of those DVD mixes the one that had Dora and all that anyways he was wondering if he could learn to read so he went to his teacher and well so on so on after that she told me she wanted to read. So we went out and got some books for her the first edition they come with barbie, Ariel, and a lot more but we also let her play on a web site that is awesome for first time readers its....

  21. Make sure you have a large number of books around the house, even though they might clash with the decor.

Make sure that your children see you reading books.

Start early, not just telling your children stories, but taking very simple books and pointing out words to them.

I started my children reading with a Ladybird series when they were only 2 1/2.  In the early stages, it was about 10 minutes a day. They could both read before they went to school.

You can't 'make' your children interested in reading, but you can encourage them.

  22. parents can make their children interested in reading books by that the 1st thing they do is try 2 impress ur children by that when u read 2 them u should make them laugh so u could make them happy and love to read.good luck wirh u

  23. I think it's important for kids to read books that they are interested in. Would you read something that bored you?

Make reading & books fun by chosing them together at the library & reading together. Books aren't the only things kids can read - there are words & numbers all around us everywhere we go everyday. Encourage them to read when they don't think that they are doing anything!

  24. by telling them that this is the best book ever

  25. hocked on fonix

  26. you could try just like sitting and reading a book in front of them, or taking them to a bookstore and letting them pick a book like once a month

  27. Start by reading to them. Get books for them that interest them. let them see you reading books. Talk about books. Take them to a book store. I did with mine they read.

  28. First off, by reading to them. You should also do a lot of reading yourself; when your children see you reading all the time, they'll want to imitate you.

  29. By living what they teach, ie they should read themselves alot and visit the library with there children every 2 weeks or so.

  30. You can just tell a story to your children and stop in the interesting paragraph, and you can say :   Ah, I just forget.....

if you like you can refer to books.....   of course, not always story , you can arrange an algebra question or a biological question and so on.....   Your must know that interest is the motive.

  31. Let them see you reading ..read to them ...and get them an encyclopidia and tell them to look it up.The biggie there is let them see you reading , they'll wonder whats up with it . Kids are by nature curious.
