  1. Well if it is television you are talking about that is your answer right there. They are paying for most of the stuff and the people only have to put up some of the money if any. They are also doing the work themselves which is so much cheaper.

You will notice most of them find knockoffs or redo things you already have in the home. Work with what you have.

Now yes some people have oodles of money to just throw to the wind. That is all fine and dandy, but most people don't.

It is amazing though what a can of paint, a rug, some candles, flowers, a mirror, accessories, pillows, throws can do. They can make an old room look new and bright again.

I think too it is a matter of having a good eye, having contacts to get things cheaper and wholesale and doing the work yourself.

  2. Hi there,

Yes, it IS expensive to remodel a house. However, there are many ways to get around that if you take the time to look around.

Many rooms that you see on TV, magazines etc. are professionally decorated by designers with teams of people working on them and yes, generally big money.

I have found that by first finding rooms that you enjoy and making yourself a nice "portfolio" of designs you like you first will be able to establish what overall style you prefer.

This can be an online portfolio of room photos you have found online or by using decorator magazines and taking the photos out that you like.

Try PointClickHome.com for room styles.  Most larger decorator magazines use this to site showcase their rooms and homes.

    That is the easy part!

Next you then seek out things that look similar to the ones in the photos.

With so many resources out there, there are a lot of styles and

price ranges to fit your own budget.

Look around at your local stores like Marshalls, TJ Maxx or even Target, etc.

They have great products of varied quality and price, usually at deep discounts.

I have seen and used many beautiful things for clients from these stores when they have a tight budget.  The trick is to picture it in your room, not their surroundings which can sometimes just get overwhelming!

You'd be surprised with a little work, you'll be able to pull together

a beautifully designed room for very little money.

No you may not be able to afford a 10,000 table for your dining room

but you probably can find something similar for far, far less.

    Hope this helps!
