How can people be sooooo stupid?

I have a good friend and she's a nice person. She's really good at handling money and has alot of money in her bank accounts but when it comes to everyday living has no common sense whatsoever! On the otherhand I am terrible with money but at least have common sense like not putting the same stupid can of cat food down for your cat to eat 5 days in a row! She did this to my cat whose been sick and had four cans of cat food sitting in the kitchen because "kitty" hadn't eaten everthing. How does she expect a cat to eat rotten food? I think my cat is smarter than she is. I was in the hospital when this happened.

I know if my cat could have talked she would have said "Oh PLEASE!"

She's done this to cats in her neighborhood giving them rotten food too. I know she's super cheap with food and money but this just plain makes me pissed off.

Obviously she meant well but just is ignorant about making a cat happy.  And it is your job to teach her properly.  Talk to your friend and tell her that unless a cat is starving, seriously starving, they won't eat rotten food because cats are smart (a dog might eat rotten food and then vomit it up later).

I have a friend like that.  When I went on vacation last time, she said she'd come in and refill their food bowl and make sure they had water (litterbox automatically cleans itself so she didn't have to deal with that).  However, when I came home the food bowl was empty (luckily I was only gone for a week and had left a huge bowl of food, and our cats are grazers so they didn't go too long without food) and their water was almost gone.  I even left written instructions.  She admitted she didn't know anything about caring for pets (she had a pet as a small child but since then she has never had anything that needs tending including plants).  So, now I know better than to rely on her to care for my guys.

if she does not have animals of her own and is not used to what TO FEED AND N0T TO FEED  give her a ******g break she done you a favour by keeping your cat and if you know shes done this before then give her money to look after your cat. She is not super cheap because it is not her animal in the first place, you should supply the food and give her a break. get over yourself. you have a good friend that thought she was doing right no matter what the price of the food was. thats just shamfull.

Maybe she didn't know any better, which I find hard to believe, but it's possible. They shouldn't eat straight from the can anyway. If she needs to cat sit again, leave detailed instructions, like refrigerating the rest of the can, toss leftovers from the fridge after 3 days, toss any uneaten room temp food etc. Stuff any decent pet owner already knows. Oh your poor cat. He probably looked at her & thought "what are you, new?"

PS your house must've smelled pretty awful with rotten cat food laying around. I'd be mad too.

Yes, people can be stupid. Did you hear about the lady who wanted to dry her cat off really fast and stuck him in the microwave and when he died she tried to sue the microwave company? Yeah. People are stupid. There's a saying that I truly love:: 'The more I learn about people, the more I love my horse.' lol ANYWAY you need to tell your friend that, if she can't take care of her pets, then she should sell them or give them away. It's not fair to the cat. And if she says 'but I looove him!' than you say 'If you really loved him, you'd take proper care of him.' And that's that.
