Question:

How can people repeatedly say there are no studies that show a link between vaccines and autism?

When I just found a list of 18 studies that do, complete with a reference to the journal in which they were published?

http://www.talkaboutcuringautism.org/vaccines/studies-about-vaccine-autism-link.htm

And these are studies published in things like the Journal of Child Neurology, Annals of Neurology, Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, etc. I'm shocked, because I keep hearing people say over and over again that there are no such studies, but here they are.

  1. There's studies, but even the Autism Society of America says there's no link.

  2. If there was a TRUE full blown link they wouldn't give kids vaccines. Personally I would rather have a child with autism than a dead one, when I could have prevented that disease. It is harmful to your child and other children when you decide not to vaccine so as long as your child stays away from all my children I don't care if you vaccinate. Just keep your kids seperate from the ones whose parents don't want them to die form a disease.

  3. bc i trust my dd's doc; he is well read and keeps up with his trade; and a lot of things you read are biased...try reading some real unbiased medical studies that are actually up to date.....

  4. Yes there are studies that say Autism is linked to vaccines. BUT the chances of not vaccinating your children are much higher. Also we put our children at risk of something everyday. we put them in our vehicle were we could be in a accident, we feed them food were they could choke to death. Its something we have to do. I had the same fears with my son because I worked with autistic children. I could deal with it if my child was autistic but I could not live with my self if my child contracted something that could have been prevented.

  5. The argued link between autism and vaccines is just propaganda made up by liberals?????!

Lord, talk about something not backed up by any proof.

Anyhow, I do actually think that the evdience showing a link is not terribly compelling. I am not saying it doesn't exist. What definitely troubles me is how many parents contend that they noticed such a dramatic difference in their children just following a particular vaccination. I know it is the popular counterargument to say "Well, autism just shows up around the same age that children get these shots," but I just have a hard time buying that. These parents, and I have met many of them, are very clear that it was an immediate, almost overnight difference.......I know that doesn't consitute good scientific evidence, but I simply cannot dismiss it.

My oldest child was diagnosed "at-risk" for autism when she was 17-months old. And in the last five years, I have heard about a million different possible explanations for autism - vaccines, diet, lack of Omega 3s, antibiotics, yeast infections, pitocin, epidurals, etc..... I put my hands over my ears a long time ago on the different theories because it started to just drive me crazy.

But even though the vaccine argument has never really moved me, I still haven't had my youngest children vaccinated for anything. My daughter, and my five-year old son, have had a couple in the last couple years, but we do them one-at-a-time and only certain ones.

ADDED: I totally agree that it is not a democrat vs. republican issue. I am not sure where the person who said it is all liberal propaganda is getting that impression.

Just want to make sure that you realized that I wasn't actually saying that is was liberal propraganda.....I am actually about as liberal as they come. Somebody else here said that....I was just completely disagreeing.

  6. They have done many studies about it, they just haven't had a proven link between the two but they have found a gene in the brain that causes it.  Plus the vaccine that was with a possible link was recalled and changed to exclude the ingredient that the studies showed might have a link, but again it was never proven that it was even linked just a bunch of studies and testing with no complete answers yet.  It is genetic they now know that.

  7. no one will ever ever know for sure if it causes autism.

for the record though, my sis decided not to have my nephew vaccinated, and 6mos later her was diagnosed with autism.

its all about opinion and speculation. my daughter will be vaccinated. purely because id rather care for her being autistic, than caring for her after she has caught measles, mumps or rubella and ending up physically or mentally disabled or even dead. children still die of measle in the UK, its rare, but they do.

  8. No one knows for sure....But would you rather take the chance and have your little one get very sick from a disease that you could have prevented? Possibly even die?

  9. Yes of course there are studies suggesting the link between vaccines and autism but there is no hard core proof.  Millions of infants get vaccinated and millions of them are unaffected. What they need to do is see if there is a genetic mutation that maybe the vaccine triggers and helps onset autism.  It is just like any other illness we are not sure where it stems from.  Did you know there is also a link between indoor swimming pools and asthma in children.  You probably didn't because there is no hard core proof.  There are children out there with autism that never received vaccinations so what onset their autism?  Who knows but lets hope we find out soon.  I vaccinated my son and I worry for about two weeks after every shot because of a study that suggests vaccines increase the risk of SIDS.

  10. I'm with you!  Frankly I'd rather be safe than sorry.  My daughter has had some vaccines as my pediatrician does the Dr Sears alternate vaccine schedule where all the vaccines are spread out.  I actually have stopped for now.  My ped is fine so long as I have all of her vaccines prior to her starting school.  I do plan on getting her vaccinated as it would be irresponsible not to - I just choose to wait until her little system is a little more mature and can handle it better.

I agree - it's ridiculous to even imply that it has to do with political affiliation. For the record I'm Republican also.  I just educated myself and then choose what works for me and my family.  We all have that choice.

  11. well the vaccines now have been removed of all potentially autism causing ingredients like mercury etc. yet there are still high rates of autism. plus if some1 is going 2b autistic they already have a gene for it and predisposition, so whether they get vaccinated or not, they will still end up displaying signs of autism and thus be autistic.

I was vaccinated in 1983 as a baby when all the vaccines still had the "autism causing' ingredients like mercury etc. and I didnt become autistic. It's bc I dont have the gene for it. Autism is not caused by vaccines; it's genetic.

All this stuff about vaccines causing autism is just a bunch of propaganda made up by liberals, and what for? I dont have the answer to that, but I DO know that if vaccines are eliminated from health plans in this country, (well united states where I live) then you will see a lot more cases of measles, mumps, rubella, polio, etc. Also with the rapid increase in unregistered immigrants, that increases people's chances of exposure to those illnesses.

Amanda Peet the actress made a good point: she said that the people who choose to not vaccinate their children, bc they think they are being protective of them, are lucky that their children are protected by the "shield" of the vaccinated children. But if every parent began thinking that vaccinations caused autism, and no1 vaccinated their children, then how are we to stop those illnesses from re-emerging? It would be a national health disaster!

Plus if I HAD  to choose, I'd rather have my little baby girl become autistic than contract some horrible disease and die from it, or be physically damaged by it the rest of her life. Have you ever known any1 with polio? the after affects are awful. I have a friend from vietnam, she got polio as a child, and this was in the 1990s. and she will stagger in her walk for the rest of her life bc of that.

  12. I just read 3 of those articles and not a single one demonstrates a link between Autism and vaccinations.  I have a BS degree in chemistry(and Biology) and know exactly how to read scientific studies.  The articles have great information, but do not link autism and vaccinations.

  13. But their Pediatrician/OB/NP/insert title here said that it doesn't, and well they went to school and know what they are talking about... right... right....

  14. My favourite stupidity is:

    Thermisol doesn't cause autism

Vaccines contain thermisol (or did, I am aware they no longer do in general)

Therefore vaccines do not cause autism.

Which is exactly the same as saying

Water does not cause allergic reactions

    Soup contains water

Therefore soup does not cause allergic reactions

Now if you were allergic to corn you certainly wouldn't say corn chowder is safe to eat just because it contains water.

Also just because there are other factors possibly involved (obviously not all vaccinated kids have autism) doesn't mean that vaccines don't cause autism.  All drug side effects only occur in some patients, and there are many other factors involved in who gets what side effects.

    Have you seen this:

  15. I agree with you! I have a 4 and a hlaf month old and I was not planning on doing any vaccines ( At least not for a while). When brought her to her 2month check up the nurse came in and started shoving needles in her legs. after those 1st vaccines she has cried 12 hours a day or more and it it 2 and a half months later. I had her 4 month check up on the 20th and i told the nurse i wasnt doing vaccines and her and my doctor were cool with that and apologized about her last Dr visit....I would nto give my baby vaccines now if you paid me. I rather she spend 3 months in the hospital and loose her hearing then have a life time of Autisim and developmental delays!

  16. You can find anything to back up any argument on the internet.

There have been studies on almost any given subject you care to mention but something that has been scientifically proven....now that's a different story.
