How can pollutants enter groundwater?

  1. Water evaporates.  Returns to earth as rain, snow etc.  Then either runs off the surface into streams, rivers etc. or soaks through ground to the water tables below the surface.

    Through these travels it picks up stuff from the air, and the ground.
