  1. I think because if you recycle, we might be cutting down less trees for materials.


  2. Not much, recycling generally refers to aluminum, steel, etc...things that are mined or dug up. Recycling when it comes to scrap wood and such is not as well expanded. For instance, one company I've heard of uses bamboo to make clothes. Problem is, the processing of such a material ends up creating more industrialized pollution just to make it comperable to plain cotton. So the idea of being "green" actually is a bust. Just because we can do something doesn't mean that we should.

    Recycling trees could be used for making a few items but by and large, its been limited compared to the metals recycling effort. Although, Tree's can be burnt down to make soot, thereby used in compost or soil. So, if all wood were reduced to ash, I suppose it could be considered a renewable 100% recyclable item. But you'd have to consider the polish's, stains and other cemicals since wood is usually coated with some kind of finish....like for furniture.
