  1. volunteer work can teach you the importance of helping others. learning the true values in life and that is to share the blessings you are  receiving.

  2. Service-learning integrates community service with classroom goals.

For example, if school students collect trash out of a creek running through or near your town -- they show up, they clean the creek, they go home -- then they've provided community service. But if they are from a biology class that is studying the effects of pollution in waterways, and they not only collect trash out of the creek but they also analyze what they found and possible sources and explore prevention methods, all tied to what they are learning in the classroom, and write reports and presentations on such as part of their classwork, then that's service learning.

Service Learning is meant to help students with critical, reflective thinking. It's meant to develop academic skills.
