I've seen lots of what's called ORGANIC SHEA BUTTER but my question is: how can shea butter be considered organic when it grows in the wild in Africa?

  1. Since there is no organic standard in the US for cosmetics and shea butter is mainly used in soaps and lotions they can call it organic no matter how they manage the trees.

  2. When people label products as organic, they usually mean that it has been grown without the use of pesticides and they have not added synthetic chemicals to it.

  3. because that's what organic means.  Organic means that it's produced naturally without the use of synthetic fertalizers, pesticides, antibiotics, steroids, etc...

Since Shea Butter is grown naturally in the wilds of Africa, it's by definition organic.
