My brother has a wild Garter Snake, he caught it a couple of weeks ago. It's a nice little fellow, he likes to curl around your fingers and just sit there. But now his eyes have a strange over cast filmy kind of gray cloudy looking. My dad says it's getting ready to shed, but just in case...

  1. yeah about to shed.  since your snake is wild caught after it finishes shedding i would take it to the vet to be checked over.  wild caught snakes usually have parasites.

  2. your dad is right.

  3. snakes are already blind hey just smell n sense.

  4. Snakes are not already blind or they wouldn't have eyes. what would be the point. Some cannot see very well and they primarily use their sense of smell and heat sensing to find prey but they can see. My anaconda has exceptional eyesight.

  5. yes its shedding...make sure there is water close by....

  6. Yes, he's getting ready to shed. I wouldn't hold him for a while, increase the humidity in the tank, make sure he has plenty of water to soak in. If he has any shedding issues, call your vet and talk to them about what you can do to help him.

  7. hes getting ready to shed... its best not to handle it especially if its wild, while it is shedding because they cant see and feel vulnerable.

Give him something hard to rub on and keep his cage moist.
