I've seen some karate experts that can take stick blows on their stomach, forearms and even on their shins. It was a stick that had about the same thickness of a broom stick.

  1. Conditioning. Repeatedly striking something, you get used to the pain and, in some ways, block it out. The conditioning part sucks -- it's a lot of pain, you lose a lot of sensation, and there's not a lot of payout. But there was a time when that sort of training was vital.

  2. Sanchin Kata. Its the Karate version of Iron body/ golden bell cover training.

  3. you know im not quite sure, but they have been training with "sparring gear" which is padding all over the body whn fighting, but it still hurts, so they  would probably gradually build up strength.

I personally just saw some one in his fifties break 6 concrete blocks with his palms and some on in his 20's break a baseball bat with his shins [at a black belt show]

  4. Well, in a class I teach, each student gets a couple of minutes of getting punched in the stomach by a fellow student at around 50% strength, this gets students used to both hitting in the stomach and getting hit in the stomach.

I have seen one friend in particular have so much peng (warding force) in his body that he can literally take a punch to the throat.  Personally, I use my shins on the kickbag all the time, without shin guards, so in my case some is conditioning, some is stupidity.   I encourage my students to do the same. In the case of my friend with so much peng, it is a mystery to me.

Conditioning, peng or just plain stupidity, people do some amazing things.

  5. you learn to block pain.

  6. Training, dedication, resolve, spirit, and mental focus.

  7. heart, thats all

  8. Martial Arts are Fake, like wrestling.

  9. A lot of training.
