How can someone be very attractive in one country and not another?

I understand that cultural preferences play a large role, but isn't the general notion of 'symmetry' supposedly attractive universally? How can someone be symmetric in one country but not another?

I have been very fortunate to have done a lot of traveling, and I've seen this first hand. In some countries I'm meh (laugh and I'll hurt you) and in others, I'm complimented (even if it is in their own very very unique way sometimes). Aside from telling me to move to one of the latter countries, what is your opinion on this? Also do you think some cultures are more expressive towards physical attraction then others (ex. italian, spaniard and latin men)?

The best thing to do...is start mixing yr blood! That way u'll get to please everyone with abit of Asia here, and European blood there...some bits of Africa/Carribean there, Middle East here, India/Punjab/Pakistan there....et voila! Can't complain cos yr universally symetrical! Yay!

I watched a documentary about some Arabic tribes who find overweight women attractive and force their female children to drink 5L(1.3 gallon) of milk every day.
