  1. i am registering for a volunteer program at a hospital this year because i want to be a pediatrician. when you send in your high school transcript(what courses you took during high school)to a college and they see things on their that will aid in your major it helps a lot. but for each their own so i suggest that you figure out what your major is going to be and go along the lines of what you want to do in community sevice with that=)good luck

  2. It doesn't kiddo

  3. Colleges love kids that do community service! But don't assume that community service will make up for other qualifiers like good grades, awesome SAT scores, challenging courses, leadership experience, and extracurricular activities. It more or less completes the package, that's all.

There are so many ways to get involved with service. Personally, I recommend starting at school with service organizations like Key Club (if you have them.) They offer lots of opportunities for service and service leadership too. Outside of school you can volunteer almost anywhere, churches, hospitals, soup kitchens, animal rescue centers, state parks, zoos... the list goes on and on. Do your research and you'll find something to do that you enjoy.

  4. I recommend that you sit down and think about the things that interest you.  Depending on where you live, there are many types of community service to choose from.  Some examples are nonprofits that serve the homeless, that serve animals, that serve victims of abuse, that serve children. You can look in your phone book under "social services" and usually get a good list.

Call the agencies that interest you.  Ask to speak with the volunteer coordinator.  Tell the coordinator your name and age, and tell her what why you're interested in her agency.  Ask about what kinds of volunteer jobs they have for someone like you.

You will probably be asked to go in and fill out an application, including references, and depending on the work, there may be a background check.  If the coordinator likes what she sees, you will probably have an interview.  During the interview, you'll talk about the specific jobs that interest you, your availability and the policies of the agency.  You can also ask any questions you may have.

    I hope this helps!

  5. just start volunteering for an organization that sounds good to you - soup kitchen, habitat for humanity - there are zillions of opportunities to volunteer.
