When I nursed, I could not eat anything containing beans or nuts. How can a nursing mother get enough protein if she has to avoid beans and nuts?

  1. Most nursing mothers can eat what they please, beans and nuts included.

I am a breastfeeder and a vegetarian and do not eat many beans or nuts simply for the fact that I'm not a fan - instead I eat plenty of cheese, yoghourt, eggs and soy.

  2. Why couldn't you eat them?

  3. Eggs are your best friend when your a vegetarian but if your a vegan then protein supplements ARE out there.

  4. I would suggest protein shakes.  Those are about the only way to get lots of protein if you are not eating beans or nuts (or obviously meat).

  5. why couldn't you eat beans or nuts?  This is insane, where did you get this info?  I nursed both my children and ate beans and nuts all the time.  they are now 17 and 12.

  6. nursing womeen dont have to avoid beans and nuts- in fact beans would be a crazy thing to avoid. some say if there is a family history of allergies then there is a reason to avoid nuts because they are a big allergen. but beans no way- plus many vegetarian people get most of their protein from soy- which would be a bean- but like i said i don't know who told you to avoid bean but that's completely untrue. There are plenty of Vegan mother's who breastfeed

  7. my question is how you can be a vegetarian and let your baby drink milk!
