How can someone set a car alarm off?

I was at work and a neighbor called and said my car alarm was going off. I then returned home and and nothing was missing. I also think the doors were unlocked but Im not sure.

there's lots of things that could set the car alarm off:

- Opening the door

- Trying to open it with a key

- Giving it a hard knock (or bumping into it)

- Loud sounds (I.e. car with loud exhaust drives by)

- Car backs into you

Always leave your car doors locked. If you alarm was armed, your doors would have been locked. But if you saw that the doors were unlocked, maybe someone was able to open the car up. If they did manage to open the car up, they might've just been "Alarmed by the alarm" and ran off.

1. hit the body if it has a motion sensor.

2. hit the glass if it has a glass sensor.

3. open the door and then close it back.

4. if the sensors are set too high vibration from the road can set it off as well as the heat from the sun.

I have an extremly loud exhaust on my car which sets other peoples car alarms of.  Someone with a loud car could have drove past.
