How can someone traveling alone have fun?

My friends can't afford to travel so year after year I put it off, like going on a nice trip to Europe. I finally want to do it, but am afraid I'll feel lonely. I went to New York recently, but felt stupid to go see a show alone, plus it felt lonely walking the streets all by myself while everyone else was with friends and family. Should I continue to stay home?

oh it's fun to travel alone! don't stay home, plan your trip and if no one will join you then just pack your bags and go!! just make sure though that you do loads of research on the places/ countries you will be travelling to. let your family and friends know your itinerary so that they know where you are and keep in touch with them. take loads of pictures and savor the places. life is short so while you have the strength and the money, go out and explore!! :) let no one hinder you from doing that.

just go out and see europe and try to get your mind off not having your friends there

you should go on one of those all women/or all men trips

they go all over and you should be able to make a lot of temporary friends there because you either go alone or with friends

just join in and talk to people

Go and do for yourself. Don't make any plans, just see the sites and take everything in. Try new things. Traveling alone is so much fun. You dont have to worry about anyone's itinerary except for your own.  Enjoy!!!

You should travel while you have the chance! I do know what you mean though, since I almost went alone an a trip to Europe. It was a group travel thing though a company called EF Collegebreak. So its this thing where people 18-26 from all over the US travel though Europe on various trips though Europe and other countries. I lucked out, and one of my friends actually was able to join me on the trip, and we really loved it. But alot of the other people on the trip came by themselves and just made friends with the other travelers. Maybe you should check it out. I know its a lot funner traveling with a friend, but since it seems that you friends just are not in the right place to travel just yet, i really think you should go. Thats what I was going to do.
