My biggest problems that I notice when writing are:

-reversing letters

-jumbling letters

-confusing letters that make the same sound ie: kat for cat

I'm going to right you a paragraph and not spell check it so that you can sea:

A smal gril derased in shortes, a teashirt and a sun hat mad her wae out in to the bakward of her grandmothers house. She had a derty fase and was stike from had to tow, as most slmal childrin our. She sat down on tha dark grean, hot, sticy serfis of the sand box and ran her bear feat thru the sand. She lovd that no matre who hard the sun shon don on her sand, it was all ways cool and damp. She piket up a hand full of sand, egsamining each grane, apreshiating how uneke each won was.

  1. From the paragraph you have written it would also appear you may have dyslexia! Do you get help with this in school? The paragraph you have written does have spelling mistakes in it but never the less it is easily readable. Just keep trying and don't rush when you are reading and writing. Don't let anyone criticise you for your spelling as dyslexia is a recognised condition and something you can't help and don't be put off writing just because of what people say. With a little help and patience it will get better, just keep trying. Good luck.

  2. There are several things that you can do. I would recommend trying to increase your sight vocabulary bank .  This means that you study commonly used words and memorize the correct spelling so that you can recognize them and use them on sight.   Aim for about ten words a week and practice every day. There's a list called the Dolch Sight Word list, you should google it!  It gives a list of the most important sight words at the elementary level. You should aim to master this list...it'll make a HUGE difference in your life.  Don't feel bad that it's elementary level because you need to build from a solid foundation.  You can also ask your teacher to teach you spelling patterns which may or may not help you depending on how you process language.  Dyslexia is a complicated LD and is not simply "reversing letters" as most people think. True and severe dyslexia means that a person cannot read despite 1 or more years of research-based intervention.  To the poster who said that your spelling shows how "crappy" schools are; that's not necessarily true.  There are a some people who cannot be fixed. The good news is that you don't appear to be one of them.  It is true, however , that many special education teachers don't have the background to help in a case of dyslexia.  Talk to your parents or school about getting you served by your school or district's reading specialist.  Best of luck! I wish I could be more help but since I can't give you a formal assessment I can't really tell how you process language.

  3. The proper term for this would be dyslexia. You reverse letters in words, numbers, etc in your brain. You see them backward. Just keep at it and you will overcome. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is thrown around loosely these days. Try to stay focused, when you find yourself drifting bring yourself back on task. God Bless.

  4. You are probably dyslexic. This is only a mild learning difficulty - lots of famous people have this - Robbie Williams for example. See dyslexia.com for details of local resources. Your school ought to have learning support personnel who can give you an official test. That way, when you decide to go on to further or higher education you can access the proper support.

  5. All learning disabilities can be overcome, you just need to learn the right strategies to deal with them.  Spell check on a computer is a great tool, but there are other tools.  I don't know how old you are but if you are still in school your teachers should already be working with you.  Check around the internet for coping mechanisms.  Good luck.

  6. Tell your parents to write  a letter to the school district special ed director requesting an evaluation to see if you can qualify for special ed services.

If you are already in special ed, the school is suppose to be helping you with this and your parents will have to fight to get them to help you.

If the school was doing right, you would be spelling better.
