How can someone with no health care and a low income pay for hospital expenses?

Say for example someone has serious cancer. How can they go about paying all the hospital bills. If they live in Canada.

Are they just supposed to die if they cant pay for the bills?

You pay it a little at a time.

A friend of my parents has more than one million dollars in medical debt. His son had bone cancer, and even though they had really good health insurance, there were things that weren't covered. He sends them $20 a month, and will do so for the rest of his life.

Canada has universal health care, so they would get treatment.
