  1. Something can have no definate beginning when it comes from something else.

Here's an example. Ice cubes come from the freezer. You put water in and ice comes out. When did they become ice? As soon as the first molecule becomes solid? When the last molecule becomes solid? Are they ever entirely ice? When do they stop being ice?

This is a simplified example, but I think you can see my point.

Many of the things that we can not identify a definate beginning for came from something else and therefore have no definate beginning.

For the chicken and egg puzzle: if the chicken evolved from another animal over hundreds of thousands of years, when did it stop being the previous animal and start being a chicken? There is no definate point.

  2. You might be interested in a Mobius strip - a strip of paper with a half twist and taped together.   you can start at one point and move your pencil "forward" and end up right back where you started from

  3. Assigning a reason to things and concepts of beginning and end are totally generated by our way of thinking they don't have any absolute sense.

Hence there can be things without beginning or end.

The hen<>egg puzzle is a bad - if at all - example

  4. God created time. God doesn't live, nor does he live by time. He exists powerfully. With a whim he could make 1+1=336 if he wanted, end your life, create another one, make your SUV lift off of the planet spontaneously, give you cancer, take it away, save your life, whatever he wants. The list never ends. Some things that he is capable of doing cannot be explained by all of Earth's imaginations combined. He scares the c**p out of me. You should be scared, too. It has been said that those who know God fear him. And for good reason. I am a creationist, and I don't believe in the "Big Bang" theory, which states that in the beginning was nothing, which exploded. God could have made it happen, but he didn't. Just think about that.

  5. There is nothing *known* in the modern scientific view of the world that does not have a beginning. Everything appears to have its origin about 13.5 billion years ago in a mysterious eruption of matter referred to as the Big Bang.

I emphasized "known" because it is at least *logically* possible for something to have no beginning. If so, however, it would have to be something that never changes or evolves with time in any way. The reason for this is that everything that does change eventually reaches a state of equilibrium where all of the energy available for change has been transformed into heat with uniform temperature, which cannot be used to perform work of any kind. Some things take a very long time for this to happen, but in all cased the time is, at least, finite. That means anything capable of change could not have been around forever.

Re follow up, "not good Dr. R ..the big bang... but the bang happened with matter..where did that matter come from".

I said "known". Beyond the BB is not known. Consider, though, that the universe that erupted is a self contained manifold (domain) of space, time, and all matter in it. That means it is illogical to ask where matter "came" (a previous time) "from" (another space). Any answer other than no "where" would violate the self-containment criterion.

  6. It's human nature to assign a beginning and end to a frame of events. That is why infinite functions, even as simple as 'y = x', are so frustrating. Infinity is possible, but we as a species cannot comprehend it, because our minds have not yet developed that capability.

  7. idk. i always hurt my brain when i think about god having no beginning

    haha :)

  8. Think of a race track,it's all black top. Do you see where it begins or ends? The sky, no beginning. Same with earth.

As far as the chicken & the egg, I say the chicken came first. Where did the chicken come from? You ask.  Remember God creating the Heavens & the earth? God created the chicken, just as he did dogs, cats, birds, etc. and even us.
