Sure its electric, but remember the devil is in the details; Electricity is generated by powerplants that run on COAL and other FOSSIL fuels. We are years away from having REAL alternatives to replace these power plants.

So now more electricity must be generated to power these, is this the way the green movement works, Claim to be helping solve issues, but all the while covering the truth of their hypocrisy?? Or is that what it really boils down to, do something that makes you FEEL like you have done something great, and that’s just as good. You know like with the “new math” or Outcome based education. Who cares if you can’t read or write, as long as you feel good about it.

  1. The previous answer is actually largely correct. Yes, the electricity must be produced by coal-fired power plants, but the emissions from those are not increased substantially for the extra electricity needed for these cars. In order for the 'grid' to sustain itself, more power must be generated than is actually used.

I agree with you, however, that environmentalists often put the cart before the horse, in that they demand that fossil fuels be done away with before their replacement power sources have been made economically viable, and it is having profound effects on all of us. Perhaps they feel by taking away the existing power sources they will FORCE everyone into working extra hard to bring about the new more efficient power sources, but it is proving to be a very dangerous game that I don't think we can afford.

  2. The only down fall is the battery goes dead while you are on a trip

No you do not want to do that in this kind of car do you

    .. . ..

Take a trip in it you can only go 120 miles when the battery is new and 6 hour recharge time.

    .. . ..

Every time you recharge the battery a few minutes are taken off the usage time and distance

    .. . ..

That is the down fall of the battery car with no back up drive source batteries only last so long and loose their capacity to hold a charge with age.

    .. . ..

Distance and life of the battery deteriorates with age

    .. . ..

  3. cuz it uses less gass and it's better for the inviorment

  4. You're making an emotional and unscientific argument.

The reason it's green is that it dramatically reduces emissions.  You're not going to eliminate emissions altogether with any form of transportation, unless it's powered with 100% renewable energy, and even then it would be an electric car.

For starters, because of the efficiency of electric motors (~90%), electric cars produce lower emissions than gas powered cars even when most of the power comes from coal.

On top of that, most of these cars are going to be sold in California (that's where the Green Vehicles dealerships currently are), and hardly any of our power comes from coal (the largest electric utility is PG&E, and 4% of their energy comes from coal).

The Green Vehicles Triac can be called green because when you look at the facts, it vastly reduces emissions.  That's what it means to be green.

  5. Unfortunately, many people don't fully "see" the facts.  Granted, an electric vehicle is a noble concept, but as you pointed out, somewhere, somehow, electricity is being generated to charge the battery of that electric vehicle...  And chances are that the electricity being used is being generated by burning fossil fuels, nuclear, or hydroelectric - with only a small fraction of that electricity being generated by "green" methods.

Oh, and don't forget to add in the "loss" of power between the generating facility and the place where the vehicle is being charged...

  6. That is a very good question

I believe that the reason they are calling this car green is because of its lack of emissions. So they are thinking mainly of air pollution caused by the car instead of the whole picture.

Other reasons it could be green is if the electricity was assumed to be used in an area where green power, such as Solar, wind or water to produce electricity, is used.

It only has to have a green component to be considered green. Saying something is green is a large selling point ow that we are in an age where we are becoming more aware of our effects on the environment.

  7. its cuz it uses LESS coal and stuff and some of that electricity can be solar or wind

  8. To be green is to lessen the impact each of us has on the environment.  The electric car releases less pollution (including its source of power)than a gasoline powered car.  In the same way walking creates some pollution(food and water we eat for power) but less than driving a car.  Its never one is good and another is bad, its degrees of bad.

  9. Id rather be at Niagra falls on the canadian side! Ive heard its much prettier and cleaner!
