  1. Jennifer is right!!

I don't think I could have said it any better :)

  2. Before teacher accountability, many teachers taught whatever they wanted.  It is good to have a passion and to teach about things of which you are truly knowledgeable.   However, when a student has the same dinosaur unit every year for 3 years and never learns about the solar system, for example, something is wrong.

I think the standards have given us a solid way to make sure students have a more rounded education.  The testing also makes sure that teachers are making sure they're teaching and holding students accountable, not just taking the easy way out and giving everyone a passing grade.

On the other hand, tests with this much importance are stressful.  They make everyone fearful, from teacher to students.  Teachers whose students do not do well often refuse to look at good teaching methods as being the cause.  And instead, they begin to "drill and kill" the test.

There needs to be a happy medium, however, time and time again, when standards are relaxed so are expectations of teachers and administrators.

  3. The problem with "teacher accountability" is that teaching is a two-way street. Poor student performance is blamed on teachers, and no one ever talks about STUDENT accountability. Not to mention PARENT accountability!

I'm not saying teachers shouldn't be held accountable to some extent for what they teach and how well they teach it. I'm saying that not even the best teacher in the world is going to reach a child who simply chooses not to learn, or whose parents refuse to support the child's learning. It's not fair to place the entire burden of responsibility on only one party in a relationship that should be working three ways.

My point is, it really DOES take a village.

  4. teaching is a best way to understand students there interest and desires .teacher should know how to deal with them not only putting the burden on them by loading a heap of books and H.W  but entertain the class solve there problems and give them moral education as well.take special care of  weak           students .try to give them some extra time before exams to solve there problems.parents teacher co operation can works wonder.
