  1. There are so many issues in this question!

My son's school has a SEN teacher, but she can't do her job because she is always teaching a class full time!

Also the school has recently seen a new pupil who has very very sever learning difficulties - they took someone extra on to help out, but they are left on their own all day, with no proper support. The child would be so much better off in a school that was more appropriate to their needs!

Wow, now you've got me started!

  2. do you mean senior schools? if so stop trying to be the children's friends, wearing inappropriate clothing and TEACH

  3. -Listen to their opinions and value their judgements.

-Do not keep taking them out of the classroom alone-its segregates them from making friends.

-Dont force 'friends' on them esp if they're older as its just embarassing!

-Dont talk over them when their parents are there...if you need to talk to parents about something negative do it out of ear shot of the child!

-Do not always label them or say things like "its your autism".

-Dont hang over them all the time if they dont need one-to-one they need to learn some independence even basic like playing alone.

-Be trained, and stay up to date in changes!

  4. By treating the child as an individual like any other child in the class, but being aware that this child will need extra support most of the time and doing their up most to provide it .This is difficult to answer as SEN covers such a wide spectrum.

  5. I would say the same for any child, SEN or otherwise and that is to treat them as an individual! Think of their individual needs, their individual learning styles, their individual obsessions, preferences, strengths and weaknesses. If you can do that and see them as that individual rather than "the autistic child" or "the dyslexic child" or "the difficult" child you won't go far wrong.

However, catering for 29 individuals in one class is simply impossible!!

    Good luck :)
