  1. They should make funding of royalty optional; those who like royalty should pay extra taxes to support them, those who don't should be able to opt out of supporting them.

  2. Well I dont want to thanks very much.

  3. You sad mother!!!

  4. I like the monarchy, they make loads of money for us from tourists. ( although it's our palaces/castles anyway)

And nobody else in the world has got quite the same royal family.

    I'm a British sikh

  5. Who says we wish to?

  6. Turn Muslim.

  7. Why would we want to, they are a lot cheaper to run than a President and a Senate are and I think it is rather nice to have a truly non-political Head of State.

  8. There is no groundswell for getting rid of the Monarchy in the United Kingdom. However, if there was, the only way would be bloodshed and civil war. Not a pretty picture. I hope that you are not under the impression that you are under house arrest - if you don't care for the British Constitution and form of Democracy known as Constitutional Monarchy, you could make sure your passport is up to date .

  9. why? they're so tremendously entertaining!

    i say we keep them!

  10. I can not answer your question.  However, I would like to comment on it.  I am an Episcopalian (Anglican) and my anscestors were Tory during the Revolutionary war.

Frankly, I would welcome your system of government over mine any day!  I largely owe my history to your monarchy.  You have no idea how fortunate you are.

  11. If I lived in Britain and hated the idea of Kings and Queens I would leave, but that is just me.

  12. Well I am British (Scots) and disagree with the vast majority of your answers, there are far too many 'hangers on' in royalty.

They do not in fact pay their way, they are archaic , leeches and if any one cares to trace back how they actually got the position in the first place they will find it was not because they were loved.

I do not want to be a 'subject' I prefer to be a citizen, I admire Americans saying they bow to no one.

The UK royal family do not contribute any income to the UK worth talking about but the income they get  themselves is well worth talking about, land that could be built upon, not just held for shooting birds, I am starting a 'rant' so I will cease .

I almost forgot your question. how to get rid?

No idea , the Russian way was a bit over the top, democratic way wont work, we cant vote them in or out!

I worked in Thailand some time back , now they are really fanatical about their royals, more so than the Brits are about their own royalty, the vast majority seem quite content with their situation .

In the meantime  am in a minority, who am I to say?

  13. We dont want to

  14. They have to want to and I don't.

  15. why get rid of them? they entertain us all and bring the tourists in.

  16. you may live in Britain but we can tell you are not British so if you don't like our Royal Family go back to where you came from

  17. Become an Islamic Republic and chop off the old biddie's head.

  18. What makes you think we want to.  I'm no royalist but the monarchy brings an awful lot of revenue to this country.  Whether you like them on a personal basis or not, they're good for the economy and a historical delight.

  19. The only way that the British people can get rid of their monarchy is to exile them or to renounce them publicly. Neither will be done.

  20. We do not wish to be rid of the monarchy, simpleton !

  21. how nice to read all these positive comments about our RF. Not a royalist but wouldn't want them not to be there.

Note to questioner...it's their not there in the English language!!

Are you British? If not, then, if you hate Kings and Queens, simply go away back to where you came from. The choice surely is yours.

  22. They may be a bit out-dated & have figurehead status only but they are still preferable to having a brain-dead president like USA have.

  23. BRITISH people don't want to.

Why on earth would you think we do.

  24. Well actually they don't want to.  Some people tried in the 1600's but then , after the Civil War, begged a King to come back.  It certainly beats having a President.

  25. It will only be replaced with something like you've got and is that any better?

  26. I wish we had a monarchy. I admit that George Bush seems a little bit imperial from time to time, but unlike your queen, who can't really do any harm, Mr Bush can, and has.

  27. Maybe they don't want to.  Despite a vocal MINORITY, Her Majesty is loved by many people.  I'm Canadian, and I'm a monarchist.  I am also left-of-centre in my political values, and an ardent unionist.

  28. I agree - why would we want to? - I don't think it IS the British way to get rid of - more like just grumble about them - best grumbling material to be had.

They are the longest running soap opera ever, and definitely living museum pieces.

They are a living monument to  our culture and traditions they provide loads of journalists with work editors with copy on poor news days and tourists with something different to look at and all of us something to talk about - like getting rid of them but never actually doing it - blimey what do you take us for!

  29. Presume you mean 'their'.    It is certainly not MY monarchy.    It will go.

  30. Nope, I agree, definitely can stay. Good entertainment value, and they raise money by drawing in the tourists. Main reason....anybody want President Thatcher or Blair? No thanks.

  31. Why?

The Royals actually pay taxes. The Queen pays taxes and Prince Charles was the first to voluntarily pay taxes. They contribute in many ways. Apart from all the taxes on their private income and also Corporate taxes, tourism brings in Billions of Pounds each year just from people wanting to see the Palaces, they stay in hotels, they eat in  restaurants or order from fast food outlets, they buy souvenirs and generally spend lots of money.

It's not the same going to see the White House, home of the President and going to see Buckingham Palace, home to Her Majesty The Queen.

The Queen took many members of the Royal Family off of the Royal list so they have to fend for themselves.
