Question:

How can the Estimated Family Contribution be right!?

I filed my FAFSA and my EFC was 15800! How can this be right? My parents are not well-off by any means! There is 6 in the household. I just do not understand. Id be lucky if I could get $1000 from family contribution. Are there any other Financial Assistance programs? Please help :(

  1. Don't panic. Even though your EFC is high, it just means you won't get grants (free money). You will still be allowed to take out enough student loans to cover your expenses.


  2. Actually, they may not get enough student loans to cover expenses because you have no idea how much money it cost to attend his school.  

    If your EFC is high and you think this is wrong consult your financial aid office.  I have seen a lot of FAFSA's come in with errors on them that have artificially inflated their EFC.  Go over it with the financial aid office.  If it is right, it is what it is.

    You will still be eligible for Stafford loans and may need to pay additional out of pocket depending on the cost to attend your school.
