Question:

How can the young generation make a difference in the minority discrimination that still exists in America?

An example would be in the work place: people do not have equal opportunities. For example, I know many African-Americans who do not get jobs only because of the color of their skin. I have also seen, by living in the South, that most employment companies (especially small ones) are made up primarily of one race. What are some of the things that citizens can do to change these discrimination practices that still exist today?

Also, feel free to give examples of how you, or someone you know, have been effected by discrimination or prejudice.

  1. when you can try to spend your money with the companies that you notice that have decent hiring practices.

tell companies that only hire on race that you don't like that and are taking your business else where.

though I guess some room should be giving to a small business if they are family owned and ran (ie the only people working there are all related)

and if you ever get a job where you get to hire people, hire people based on skill and be mindful to not dicriminate against people based on race.

as for a story of prejudice...since I pre-teen I've had the super power to make many older white women clutch there purses.

  2. What the h**l are you talking about it's not the 60's women!Connie Rice do you know who she is?

  3. I live in CT, so I don't have the same experiences with racism as you, however i still see it.  I think that the best thing to do is try and teach people around you.  Don't tell them to ignore that there are racial differences, or be "colorblind," instead teach people to accept that not everybody is the same race, accept that each culture has different traditions, and is valuable to humanity in many different and unique ways.

  4. An age old problem. Even some of the younger generation are guilty of it, by parental etc influence.

The wind of change is blowing and hopefully the younger generation will encourage that wind. It will take a lot more time to get rid off encrusted, bigoted attitudes but the right attitude is here, now and just needs the younger generation to keep it burning.

I have seen first hand the minority discrimination against me,in my own country. I now want nothing to do with that race that displayed that discrimination. I do not however hold any prejudice against any member of that race except that the barrier I always erect when meeting someone is just that bit higher for them.
