As i've read, they are attacted to the lights in the evening time. I really hate how they dive bomb you as you walk around. Or whats worse is watching my wife and kids freak out as they buzz their heads. I was sitting on my couch and i guess one got into the house. It buzzed my wife's head, then my 5 year old and he went screaming down the hall. Does anyone know how to control these suckers?

  1. Are you talking about San Jose in Costa Rica ?  If so, I just recently went there for 10 days and I found it horrible.  I can't see how anyone in their right mind could ever move there from the US.  I traveled all overe the world and that was the worst place I have ever been to.  You should have done some research on the bug and mosquito infestation before you ever bought a home there.

  2. If you are talking about those sort of rounded back flying beetles, there is little you can do about them except provide screened in protection for inside.  However, those type don't fly for protracted lengths of time.  If the ones you are encountering are flying lots, they are lighter and can do so without tiring.  Unfortunately getting rid of either type is probably impossible.  As you say, they are attracted to light, but yellow lights give off less attraction to them, so if you were able to get outside lights changed to yellow tints, you would have better luck--they will simply head for the brighter, more brilliant lights someplace close but not at your place.

Try Florida if you really want to see bugs, both night and day.....

  3. Don't know if available ,but in Australia we have these electrical outdoor bug zappers. You locate them in your yard away from the house and sit back and listen to those lil buggies goies zappies.
